Bendigo Business Council enthusiastic about proposed airport link
The Bendigo Business Council is highly supportive of a proposal for a freeway link from the Calder Highway to Melbourne Airport north of the airport.
Speaking in response to reports in The Age website today of preliminary studies by VicRoads into a freeway link from an outer ring-road to the airport, BBC Executive Officer Kevin de Vries expressed his enthusiasm for the proposal.
"The Bendigo Business Council identified the need for a northern link to the airport in our issues paper earlier this year. Such a link would provide businesses and travellers with a safe direct link to our international airport. It would facilitate trade, exports, commerce and tourism from and to the Calder corridor and the north-west of the State."
"A direct link to the Calder Freeway would improve safety by eliminating the use of the Bulla-Diggers Rest Road, reduce traffic travelling through Bulla, and benefit Melbournians by ensuring that heavy traffic from Bendigo and NW Victoria could access the airport without having to use and contribute to congestion on the Tullamarine Freeway."
"The benefits for businesses, travellers and the economy of north-western Victoria would be significant." Mr de Vries said.
